Gilles Bensimon is one of the most recognized names in French fashion photography, with a career spanning decades across magazine editorials, advertising and artistic projects. Beginning his professional career in the late 1960s, he developed a long collaboration with ELLE and, after the launch of the American edition in 1985, moved to New York, where he later took on an editorial leadership role. A photographer of covers and fashion spreads, he captured icons such as Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Madonna, and worked with major cosmetics brands. Alongside his commercial work, Bensimon produced art that led to international exhibitions, including the series Watercolour (2012) and Gris‑Gris (2018), in which he explores montage, collected objects and a mystical atmosphere. He has published books on his aesthetic vision and participated in broad editorial projects. Known for a vision that blends editorial glamour with a refined visual sensibility, his career influenced generations of fashion photographers and helped shape the public image of numerous celebrities and brands.
