Guccio Gucci was the Italian entrepreneur and designer who founded one of the world's most iconic fashion houses. The son of a merchant from northern Italy, he began as a craftsman and in 1921 opened a small leather saddlery shop in Florence, selling bags for horse riders and quickly building a reputation for artisanal excellence.
Over time, the business grew into a family enterprise, with the involvement of his sons Aldo, Vasco, Ugo, and Rodolfo. Expansion was gradual but solid: in 1938 he opened a store in Rome, in 1951 the brand reached Milan, and two years later it arrived in Manhattan, paving the way to become a global luxury house. Guccio died in 1953 at the age of 71, after spending his final years in West Sussex, England.
