James Redfield is an American author, lecturer, and film producer, best known for The Celestine Prophecy, a novel first self-published in 1992 that became an international publishing phenomenon. Trained in sociology and holding a master's degree in counseling, he worked for more than fifteen years as a therapist for adolescents who had been abused—experience that shaped his interest in interpersonal psychology, intuition, and psychic phenomena. By synthesizing Eastern and Western traditions—including elements of Taoism and Zen—with themes from science, ecology, and mysticism, Redfield created a series of spiritual parables that reached a wide audience: The Celestine Prophecy and its sequels sold tens of millions of copies and spent years on bestseller lists. The books led to adaptations, including a 2006 film for which he served as producer and co-writer of the screenplay. In addition to fiction, Redfield has published non-fiction works exploring emergent spirituality and has contributed to collaborative projects on personal growth. He has also been involved in online prayer and meditation initiatives and has received public recognitions and awards related to his literary and humanitarian work.
