Jason Lamy-Chappuis is a former Franco‑American athlete who specialized in Nordic combined, the discipline that combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing. Raised in the mountains of the United States and the small village of Bois‑d'Amont in France, he rose to international prominence from the 2000s onward, winning World Cup stages and earning podiums at World Championships. His most notable achievement was the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games in the 10 km individual (normal hill), secured in a dramatic finish by just 0.4 seconds—the smallest margin in Olympic Nordic combined history. Between 2010 and 2012 he won the overall World Cup title three times and collected five world titles over the course of his career. Outside sport, he worked with the French border patrol and expressed an interest in aviation, beginning pilot training. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2014–2015 season to focus on becoming a pilot, returning briefly to competition in 2017–18.
