Jean-Baptiste Grange is one of the leading names in French alpine skiing in the 2000s and 2010s, specializing in the technical events, especially slalom. Winner of the World Cup slalom title in 2009, he accumulated nine victories on the circuit — eight in slalom and one in the combined — and ended his career with 18 podiums in 197 starts. His career is highlighted by two world slalom titles, won in 2011 and 2015, an achievement unmatched by a Frenchman in this discipline since 1982. Trained in the family tradition of Valloire, he emerged early on the circuit, debuting in the World Cup in 2004 and taking bronze at the 2007 World Championships in his first appearance. Through ups and downs, he was notable for regaining competitiveness after serious injuries, celebrating emblematic wins in Kitzbühel and Schladming before his 2011 world title. A member of the French Army for part of his career, Grange represented France at three editions of the Olympic Games (2006, 2014, 2018) without winning medals. After 17 seasons on the circuit, he announced his retirement at the end of the 2020–2021 season, leaving a legacy as a benchmark for French slalom and an example of recovery from injuries that interrupted long stretches of his career.
