Jean‑Michel Aulas is a French businessman known for his career in the software industry and for his long leadership in professional football. He founded Cegid in 1983, a company providing management and accounting systems for professionals, and led the firm until selling it to Groupama in 2007, remaining in an executive role for several years. His business career established him in French economic circles, with personal wealth estimated at €450 million in 2025. Aulas came to public attention when he became president of Olympique Lyonnais in 1987, at a moment when the club faced serious financial difficulties. He transformed the association into a corporate group (OL Groupe), professionalized management and diversified revenue streams, producing an era of sporting and institutional success in the following decades. Under his leadership a high‑performance women’s section was created, which won numerous national and European titles. A controversial figure, he is praised for modernizing the club’s management and criticized for a business‑oriented view of football. In 2022–2023 he left the executive presidency and became honorary president; he then took positions within the structure of French football. His influence combines business initiatives with a lasting legacy in the professionalization of football in Lyon and in France.
