Jenny Kee is an Australian fashion designer known for popularizing a distinctly vibrant Australian aesthetic in clothing and textiles. From the 1970s, together with her creative partner Linda Jackson, she produced garments and pure-wool knitwear featuring local flora and fauna motifs — iconic images such as the waratah and a sweater with a koala gained public recognition and even international attention when one piece was worn by Princess Diana. Her career began in the London scene of the 1960s and she returned to Australia to open the Flamingo Park boutique in Sydney’s Strand Arcade, which became a landmark for Australian fashion until it closed in 1995. Kee collaborated with contemporary artists and jewellers, blending fashion, art and craft into distinctive, colorful creations. Over the decades she received institutional recognition: she worked with international brands and fashion houses, had her designs revisited by Woolmark and was honored with awards and distinctions, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia. Her legacy is linked to establishing a national identity in fashion and to reinventing textile craft as a form of cultural expression.
