Jessica Gavora is an American writer and political consultant associated with conservatism, known for work on culture, education, and public policy. She earned degrees in political science and journalism from Marquette and a master’s in American foreign policy and international economics from SAIS/Johns Hopkins. In the 1990s she worked with conservative political organizations and with the Project for the New American Century. In government service, she was the principal speechwriter for then–Attorney General John Ashcroft and a senior official in the United States Department of Justice. She also served as a speechwriter and adviser to Nikki Haley during Haley’s tenure as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and wrote speeches for conservative figures such as Newt Gingrich and Alberto Gonzales. She is the author of Tilting the Playing Field (2001), a critical study of the effects of gender-equity policies on school sports, and has contributed to conservative magazines including The Weekly Standard and National Review. Married to commentator Jonah Goldberg, Gavora remains an active presence in the American conservative intellectual scene, focusing on education, family, and culture.
