Jim Hall (James Ellis Hall) is an American racing driver and constructor whose career shaped technical development in motorsport during the 1960s and 1970s. As a driver he competed in top-level events, including 11 Formula 1 World Championship Grands Prix between 1960 and 1963 and endurance races such as Le Mans and Sebring. His on-track results earned him recognition, but his most enduring contribution was as an innovator and team leader.

Hall co-founded and was the driving force behind Chaparral Cars, together with Hap Sharp; the team became notable for its pioneering use of aerodynamics and advanced technical solutions in race cars. Chaparral’s designs, which originated in the SCCA and Can-Am environments, had a deep influence on the development of motorsport, introducing concepts that later became standard in single-seaters and prototypes.

In the 1970s Hall also acted as team principal and owner on racing projects, including Jim Hall Racing, which achieved success in major competitions and played a role in adopting ground-effect concepts for Indianapolis cars. He retired from track activities in 1996, leaving a technical legacy recognized for its innovation and lasting impact on the sport.
