Joe Penny (Joseph Edward Penny Jr.) is a film and television actor of British origin whose career was established in the United States. The son of an American father and an Italian mother, he grew up in Georgia and moved to California at an early age, where he left school to pursue acting and trained in the Lee Strasberg tradition.
He began working in television in the 1970s, appearing in series such as CHiPs, Lou Grant, and Flamingo Road. His biggest break came in 1984 when he became co‑star of Riptide, a role that solidified his presence on the American television circuit.
Over the following decades he maintained a steady career across a range of productions, moving between police procedurals and melodramas; his credits include episodes of Matlock, Perry Mason, Walker, Texas Ranger, and The Sopranos, as well as numerous TV movies.
Known for an extensive filmography and recurring television roles, Joe Penny is remembered as a versatile performer in American television entertainment from the 1980s through the 2000s.
