John Frederick Dickerson is an American journalist known for his long career covering politics and hosting television programs. He worked for twelve years at Time magazine, serving as White House correspondent for the last four of those years, and was a political columnist for Slate from 2005 to 2015. His political analysis work includes appearances on programs and podcasts such as Washington Week, Slate Political Gabfest, and the Whistlestop podcast.
In 2009 he began working with CBS News; he was named political director in 2011 and held prominent roles such as moderator of Face the Nation (2015–2018), chief Washington correspondent, and host of various network blocks, including CBS This Morning, with contributions to 60 Minutes. His reporting on the death of Elijah McClain was nominated for an Emmy for investigative reporting.
The author of books on the presidency and the history of presidential campaigns, Dickerson also produced educational content for Khan Academy in 2018. Over his career he has been noted for his ability to pose incisive questions to those in power and for combining reporting, commentary, and mediation on contemporary political issues.
