John Garrett Olerud Jr. is a former American professional baseball player, best known for his long career as a first baseman in Major League Baseball from 1989 to 2005. He is especially associated with the Toronto Blue Jays, with whom he won back-to-back World Series titles (1992–1993).

Known for his discipline at the plate and an unusually high on-base rate, Olerud won the American League batting title in 1993 and was a two-time All-Star. In 1998, with the New York Mets, he finished second in the National League in batting average and set team records for batting average and on-base percentage. Over his career he compiled substantial totals: more than 2,200 games, 255 home runs, 500 doubles and a .398 on-base percentage.

He also excelled on defense, earning three Gold Glove awards and appearing in 2,053 games at first base with a .995 fielding percentage. Noted for wearing a helmet while fielding—a precaution following brain aneurysm surgery in his youth—Olerud was known for his steady offense, dependable defense and status as one of the most reliable first basemen of his generation.
