Kevin Michael Stevens is a former American ice hockey player who played left wing and is best known for his central role in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Stanley Cup victories in 1991 and 1992. A Boston College alumnus, he represented the United States in international competition, including the World Championship and the Olympic Games, before establishing himself in the NHL. In the early 1990s Stevens became one of the league’s leading power forwards, posting several seasons with more than 40 goals; in 1991–92 he reached 123 points, then a record for a U.S.-born player and for the left wing position. His combination of scoring and physical play put him among the few players to score over 50 goals while also accumulating more than 200 penalty minutes in a single season. After severe facial injuries in 1993 and a career marked by ups and downs that led him to play for several clubs — including Boston, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia — Stevens returned to Pittsburgh and, after retiring, took on scouting and player-evaluation roles within the organization. His legacy encompasses both a period as a high-producing forward and a later contribution behind the scenes for the championship club.
