Kim Petras is a German singer and songwriter whose career blends early public exposure with an independent pop path that evolved into international success. She first attracted attention in childhood for her gender transition and, over the years, built a presence on social media and YouTube, releasing singles and small projects on her own labels before establishing herself in the music scene. Between 2017 and 2019 she solidified an initial phase marked by hit singles—such as "I Don't Want It at All" and "Heart to Break"—which charted on Billboard's Dance/Electronic charts and gave rise to what she called "Era 1." During this period she also released the independent albums Clarity and Turn Off the Light, expanding her repertoire and artistic identity. From 2021, after signing with Republic Records, Petras began operating on a larger scale, with the EP Slut Pop and prominent collaborations. In 2022 she reached the top of the charts with "Unholy," a collaboration with Sam Smith, a milestone that made her the first openly trans solo artist to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2023 she received a Grammy for that performance, reaffirming her position and legacy in contemporary pop.
