Laxmi Thakarsi Kuruwa, known as Laxmi, an Indian religious figure, became the first disciple and personal secretary of Rajneesh (Osho). Around the Pune ashram and during the movement’s international expansion, she held a close administrative and trusted role with the leader, helping organize the daily activities and communications with disciples. Her association with Rajneesh placed her within the decision-making core and practices of the neo-sannyasin movement at a time of intense promotion of meditation techniques and therapies drawn from the Human Potential Movement. As secretary, Laxmi supported the ashram’s management and contact with followers, a role important to maintaining the community’s infrastructure. In light of the controversies surrounding the movement—tensions with Indian authorities, relocation to the United States, and alleged crimes attributed to members close to the leadership—her activity remains connected with the period of greatest visibility and conflict in the group’s history. Laxmi’s public legacy is tied to her direct relationship with Rajneesh and her administrative role within the movement.
