Lee Harvey Oswald was, according to three investigations by the United States government, the assassin of President John F. Kennedy, who was shot in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963.
A Marine who defected to the Soviet Union and later returned to his country, Oswald was arrested on suspicion of having killed police officer J. D. Tippit, and was subsequently linked to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He denied any responsibility for the crimes. Two days later, on November 24, 1963, while being transferred in police custody from the municipal jail to the state jail, Oswald was shot and killed by Jack Ruby.
In 1964, the Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of President Kennedy.
