Marcel Amont, stage name of Marcel Miramon, was one of France’s most popular and prolific singers from the 1950s through the 1970s. Blending influences from pop and American jazz, he built a multifaceted career that included film acting, television hosting and songwriting. He recorded around 1,000 songs in several languages, sold an estimated hundreds of millions of records, and scored hits such as "Bleu, blanc, blond" and "Un Mexicain". His professional career began in Paris cabarets, progressing to appearances at prestigious venues like the Olympia and film roles alongside figures such as Brigitte Bardot. During the 1960s he established himself as a star of major music halls, earning gold records and mounting international tours, while forging close ties with prominent French songwriters. On television he was a frequent presence on popular programs and introduced innovations in set design and show formats, including France’s first color broadcast. In subsequent decades he remained artistically active, releasing albums, taking part in children’s projects and publishing memoirs, leaving a legacy as a versatile performer and an emblematic figure of francophone song.
