Georg Friedrich II of Brandenburg-Ansbach was a German prince of the late 17th and early 18th centuries who ruled the Margraviate of Ansbach from 1692, succeeding his elder brother. He belonged to an influential noble family—son of Margrave Johann Friedrich and half-brother of Queen Caroline of Great Britain—which placed him within the political and dynastic networks of the Holy Roman Empire. His career was chiefly military. He served as a volunteer in imperial campaigns during the War of the Palatine Succession (1695–1697) and took an active part in the War of the Spanish Succession, where in 1702 he captured the fortress of Brescello (Modena). These actions reflect the common role of minor German princes as commanders and allies in the European wars of the era. He was killed in action at the Battle of Kittensee in 1703. Unmarried and without issue, his succession passed to his half-brother Wilhelm Friedrich. His short rule and military service illustrate the close link between regional government and military duty among the German nobility of the period.
