Marin Čilić is a Croatian professional tennis player, known as a Grand Slam champion and Olympic doubles medalist. He became a central figure in Croatian tennis by winning the 2014 US Open, where he beat Kei Nishikori in the final and defeated Roger Federer in the semifinals. That triumph made him the second Croatian to lift a Major in the Open Era, alongside Goran Ivanišević.
Over his career he reached a career-high ATP ranking of world No. 3 in January 2018, and produced deep runs at other Slams: a semifinal at the 2010 Australian Open and a final at Wimbledon in 2017, where he finished runner-up to Roger Federer. In 2016 he won the Cincinnati Masters 1000, halting a long run of victories by the era’s top players.
Čilić was also a key member of Croatia’s Davis Cup team, helping them reach the final in 2016. Developed on the junior circuit with a junior Roland Garros title, his professional career blends a steady presence at high-level tournaments with standout results that have made him one of Croatia’s most notable tennis players.
