Maura West is an American actress known for her long career in television soap operas. A graduate in theatre arts from Boston University, she rose to prominence in 1995 for her portrayal of Carly Tenney on As the World Turns, a role that defined much of her career and to which she returned for many years until the series ended in 2010.
After that period, West took on leading roles in other daytime dramas: she played Diane Jenkins on The Young and the Restless and, beginning in 2013, art dealer Ava Jerome on General Hospital, a role that earned critical praise and a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2015.
Over the course of her career she has received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations — twelve in total — and has won three awards in the lead actress category. She also made her film debut in the feature Come Back to Me (2014).
Beyond her professional work, West is notable for her enduring presence in the world of American soaps, influencing generations of viewers and fellow actors; she is married to actor Scott DeFreitas and is the mother of five children.
