Melody Thornton is an American singer, songwriter and dancer who rose to prominence as the second lead vocalist of the pop group The Pussycat Dolls. Recruited in 2003 to strengthen the group’s vocal lineup, she contributed to the albums that brought the band international recognition, including PCD (2005) and Doll Domination (2008), providing backing vocals and sharing lead lines on several tracks. During her time with the group she took part in hits that achieved major chart and media visibility.
In 2010 Thornton left the group to pursue a solo career, aiming to expand her musical identity beyond the commercial pop of the band. She worked with producers and artists such as CeeLo Green and Polow da Don, and released her own material: the single “Sweet Vendetta” (2011) and the mixtape POYBL (2012), which collects original songs, reinterpretations and collaborations.
Beyond music, Thornton has appeared in television projects and in other artists’ music videos, and expanded her presence on entertainment programs, including British reality shows such as Celebs Go Dating and Dancing on Ice. Her career is characterized by the shift from member of a pop phenomenon to a solo artist seeking creative autonomy.
