Michael Des Barres is an English actor and rock singer whose career has spanned music and television since the early 1970s. He rose to prominence as the vocalist for bands such as Silverhead, Detective and Chequered Past, and was invited to replace Robert Palmer in The Power Station project, singing at the historic Live Aid concert in 1985. As a songwriter, he co-wrote “Obsession,” which became an international hit in the version recorded by Animotion.
As an actor, Des Barres has more than a hundred television credits and around thirty films, remembered for recurring roles such as Murdoc on MacGyver and appearances in titles including To Sir, with Love; Ghoulies; Under Siege; and Mulholland Drive. He has also worked across a range of TV productions, from Lois & Clark to Seinfeld and Frasier, and was part of the cast of The New WKRP in Cincinnati.
Outside his artistic career, he hosts a radio show on The Underground Garage (SiriusXM) and has participated in documentary projects about his life. Historically engaged in efforts against chemical dependency, he was one of the founders of Rock Against Drugs and remains active in counseling initiatives and rock-related cultural events.
