Michael Parks was an American actor and singer whose career crossed television, film, and music. He became known for the title role in the series Then Came Bronson (1969–1970), playing a solitary traveler and recording the hit theme "Long Lonesome Highway," which charted in the U.S. and Canada. He recorded several albums and remained active as a singer throughout his life.
After his television peak, he clashed with producers and faced a period of exclusion from major studios, working on independent and Canadian productions during the 1970s and 1980s. His career experienced a notable revival under contemporary filmmakers; in the 1990s and 2000s he appeared in memorable roles in films by Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Kevin Smith, portraying distinctive characters such as Texas Ranger Earl McGraw.
Known for an intense presence and a distinctive voice, Parks earned a reputation as an idiosyncratic performer, sometimes described as difficult on set. In his later years he renewed collaborations with independent filmmakers and released the album The Red State Sessions after growing close to Kevin Smith. His legacy remains the blend of vigorous acting and musical work that influenced filmmakers and fans.
