Nicole Croisille was a French singer, dancer and actress whose career spanned several decades of the 20th century. Trained at the Comédie‑Française and influenced by Marcel Marceau’s mime, she worked in revues, musical theatre and film, but became best known as a vocalist. She reached international recognition in 1966 when, in a duet with Pierre Barouh, she recorded the theme song for the film Un homme et une femme, whose score by Francis Lai achieved notable success in the United States.
Throughout the 1970s she defined her artistic identity with repertoire carefully produced by composers such as Francis Lai, Jean‑Pierre Lang and Pierre Grosz, recording hits like Parlez‑moi de lui, Une femme avec toi and Téléphone‑moi. Her voice, shaped by jazz and African‑American musical influences, made her a respected interpreter, although she relied on songwriters for much of her material.
Alongside her music career she remained active in theatre and film, appearing in plays, movies and television programs and collaborating with artists such as Claude Lelouch and André Manoukian. Her legacy is that of a multifaceted artist who combined stage, jazz and popular song, leaving a significant repertoire in France from the 1960s to the 1980s.
