Nomar Garciaparra is a former American professional baseball player, best known for his time as the Boston Red Sox shortstop for much of his Major League career. A standout in the 1990s and 2000s, he was a six-time All-Star, won the American League Rookie of the Year in 1997, and led the league in batting average twice (1999–2000), hitting .372 in 2000 — the highest average by a right-handed hitter in the postwar era.

His career includes rare feats: he is one of 13 players in MLB history to hit two grand slams in a single game and the only player to do so in his home ballpark. In 1997 he set rookie records by hitting 30 home runs and compiling a 30-game hitting streak, and he earned awards such as the Silver Slugger. Known for a distinctive batting stance and an ability to sustain a high batting average, he finished his career with a .313 lifetime average.

Significant injuries from 2001 onward limited his performance in subsequent seasons, and he also played for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Oakland Athletics before retiring. Afterwards he worked as a sports analyst. Of Mexican-American heritage, his career left a legacy of offensive excellence among fans and baseball analysts.
