Orlando Garcia da Silva was one of the most important Brazilian singers of the first half of the twentieth century.
Orlando Silva was born on General Clarindo Street, today Rua Augusta, in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood. His father, José Celestino da Silva, was a guitarist and took part with Pixinguinha in serenades, fish stews and feijoada gatherings.
It was Bororó, as he himself recounts in the film O cantor das multidões that introduced him to Francisco Alves, who heard Orlando sing inside his car, immediately deciding to launch him on his program on Rádio Cajuti.
