Pepe Aguilar is a U.S.-born singer-songwriter of Mexican descent, known for his work in ranchera, mariachi, and Latin pop. The son of the also-famous Antonio Aguilar, he grew up in a musical environment, appearing in his father’s shows from an early age and forming a short-lived rock band as a teenager. His solo career took off in 1990 with the album Drums with Pepe Aguilar, which paved the way for his success in Latin America.

His album Por Mujeres Como Tú (1998) cemented his popularity, staying on the Billboard charts for 52 weeks and achieving significant global sales, while Debido A Una Mujer Hermosa earned him a Latin Grammy in 2000. Over the course of his career he has received multiple Grammy nominations and Latin music awards, establishing himself as a prominent voice in contemporary regional Mexican music.

Aguilar also reached international milestones: he was the first Mexican artist to perform at the Hollywood Bowl and the first Hispanic performer to sing at the Kodak Theatre, both in Los Angeles. He is remembered both for his family legacy and for bringing the ranchera tradition to contemporary stages and audiences.
