Portland Mason was a British‑American child actress and writer, known for appearing in films and television programs in the 1950s and 1960s. The daughter of actors James and Pamela Mason, she began acting very young, starring in shorts and taking prominent roles in features, such as the daughter of Gregory Peck’s character in The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956). Her best‑remembered performance is Georgina in The Great St Trinian’s Train Robbery (1966).
During her teenage years she was involved in contractual disputes with studios, including a successful suit against Lyl Productions that she won on appeal. After her final film role, in Sebastian (1968), she turned to writing, following her mother’s profession; according to her husband, she was working on a book about her father before she died.
Her personal life received wide press attention, shaped by both an affluent family environment and conflicts over her father’s estate after his death. Her legacy in entertainment is tied to the move from child actress to a literary career and to her record of juvenile roles in Anglo‑American productions.
