Viktoria Luise Adelheid Mathilde Charlotte, known as Viktoria Luise of Prussia, was a princess and a central figure among European royal families in the early 20th century. The only daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, she became the protagonist of a marriage that symbolized reconciliation between the houses of Hohenzollern and Hanover when she married Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, in 1913. The union was widely publicized as a major dynastic and social event shortly before the outbreak of World War I. Throughout her public life, Viktoria Luise performed the traditional role of a hereditary princess, maintaining ties with various European courts and shaping family networks that endured into subsequent generations — she was the maternal grandmother of Queen Sofía of Spain and the great‑grandmother of King Felipe VI.
