Augusta Vitória of Hohenzollern (born Potsdam, 1890 — died Eigeltingen, 1966) was a German princess whose life intersected with several European dynasties in the early twentieth century. A daughter of Prince William of Hohenzollern‑Sigmaringen and a granddaughter of branches of the House of Braganza and of Italian and Bavarian royal houses, she belonged to a dynastic circle linked to claims and pretensions to thrones in various European states. In 1913 she married Manuel II of Portugal, the deposed former king who had been overthrown by the establishment of the Republic in 1910; although treated as queen by monarchists in exile, she never performed functions on the throne nor received official recognition in Portugal. The childless marriage cemented her role as a representative of the Portuguese monarchy within the European royal diaspora. A widow from 1932, she married in 1939 Count Carl Robert Douglas, head of the Swedish comital house of Douglas and lord of Langenstein Castle; this second marriage also produced no children. She spent much of her life among aristocratic circles in Germany and in exile, retaining honorific titles associated with the Portuguese monarchical tradition. Her death in 1966 led to burial at Langenstein Castle, the Douglas family estate, closing a life that illustrates the dynastic ties and loss of power experienced by European nobility in the twentieth century.
