Richard Emory, born Emory Waldemar Johnson Jr., was an American character actor who gained his greatest prominence in film and television during the 1950s and 1960s. The son of silent‑film stars Emory Johnson and Ella Hall, he began his career as a child with small appearances in productions of Hollywood’s classical era, but established himself professionally after serving as a Marine during World War II.
Over the next two decades Emory specialized in supporting roles, often cast as a handsome, well‑built performer, and worked in both feature films and television series. His career reflects that of many character actors of the period, maintaining a steady presence in the industry without achieving top‑tier stardom.
In 1963 Emory retired from the performing arts and spent his later years working in occupations outside the entertainment business.
