Robert Brasillach was a French writer, journalist, and film critic whose work and career were closely tied to the political context of the 1930s and 1940s. The author of essays, poems, and works on the Spanish Civil War — such as Les cadets de l'Alcázar, written with Henri Massis — he also became known for literary and cultural commentary influenced by the thought of Charles Maurras. During the German occupation of France, Brasillach adopted a stance of collaboration and Germanophilia that led him to publish and support positions close to the Nazi regime; this political and intellectual activity was decisive in his conviction for treason after the Liberation. He was condemned and executed on 6 February 1945. His output includes novels, criticism, and poetry collections published before and after his death, and continues to provoke debate about aesthetics, politics, and intellectual responsibility in twentieth‑century France. Studies and monographs on him examine both his literary contributions and his role within the radical right and the collaborationist context during the Second World War.
