An American actor and screenwriter, Robert Culp built a prolific career primarily in television over more than five decades. He gained international recognition for his role as agent Kelly Robinson in I Spy (1965–1968), the espionage series in which he shared the screen with Bill Cosby; in addition to acting, he wrote several episodes of the show and was nominated for an Emmy both for writing and for acting. Earlier, he was notable in the TV western Trackdown (1957–1959) as Ranger Hoby Gilman, a role that brought him prominence in the western series circuit.
Across the following decades he maintained a steady presence on television: he played FBI agent Bill Maxwell in The Greatest American Hero in the 1980s, had recurring roles on Everybody Loves Raymond, and appeared in memorable episodes of series such as The Outer Limits and Columbo. He also worked as a voice actor in video games, including Half-Life 2.
Known for his versatility—working in westerns, dramas, comedies, and science fiction—Culp left a legacy as both performer and television writer, noted for striking performances and for moving between leading and supporting roles over a long career.
