Rocky Marciano (Rocco Francis Marchegiano) was an American boxer active from 1947 to 1955, renowned for his aggressive style, exceptional endurance, and devastating knockout power. He won the world heavyweight title in 1952 by defeating Jersey Joe Walcott and defended it six times against opponents including Ezzard Charles (twice), Roland La Starza, Don Cockell, and Archie Moore. The only world heavyweight champion to retire undefeated in professional boxing, Marciano finished his career without a loss and with one of the division’s highest knockout percentages. His record in and out of the ring placed him among the sport’s elite; historians and specialist rankings often list him among the greatest boxers of all time. A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, born to an Italian immigrant family, he became known for his discipline, humility, and refusal to underestimate opponents. Marciano’s image influenced popular culture and inspired films that evoke the fighter’s life. His legacy endures as a measure of perseverance and power in heavyweight boxing.
