Roger Joseph Zelazny was an American writer of fantasy and science fiction, known for blending mythology, religion and modernity in his stories and novels. He became famous for the Chronicles of Amber series, which mixes family intrigue, parallel worlds and mythic elements, and for standalone works such as This Immortal (...And Call Me Conrad) and Lord of Light, both winners of the Hugo Award.
Over his career he received multiple major genre awards — including several Hugos and Nebulas — reflecting his influence and esteem among readers and peers. His work frequently draws on cultural figures and myths (Egyptian, Norse, Greek, and others), and recurs on themes such as the absence of a father figure and the reinterpretation of archetypes.
