Sergio Castellitto is an Italian actor, screenwriter and film director whose career spans more than four decades, with appearances in over 70 films and numerous television productions. A graduate of the Silvio D’Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art, he began in classical and contemporary theatre, performing in plays by Shakespeare, Brecht, Chekhov and Strindberg, and established himself on the Italian stage before moving into cinema. In film, he drew attention in titles such as La famiglia, L'ultimo bacio, The Star Maker and My Mother's Smile, and reached an international audience with Mostly Martha and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. He has frequently collaborated with his wife, the writer and screenwriter Margaret Mazzantini, whose works he has both directed and starred in, including Don't Move. Alongside his acting career, he has directed films such as Libero Burro, Don't Move and Twice Born, which were screened at festivals including Toronto and Cannes. Over the years he has received numerous national and international awards, among them the David di Donatello and a European Film Award, and as a member of an ensemble he won the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2024. His career combines intense acting, authorial projects and a regular presence on the festival circuit, establishing him as a significant figure in contemporary Italian cinema.
