Simon Pagenaud is a French racing driver with an established career in single-seaters and prototypes. Trained in the European junior formulas, he rose to prominence after winning the Formula Atlantic title in 2006, a result that propelled his move into international championships. Over the following decade he established himself in endurance racing and American motorsport: he competed in the American Le Mans Series and contested four editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, his best result being second place in 2011 driving the Peugeot 908. In ALMS he collected wins and pole positions with the Acura ARX-01b prototype for De Ferran Motorsports. His principal achievement in single-seaters came in IndyCar: in 2016 he became champion with Team Penske, becoming the first French driver to win the series title. In 2019 he won the Indianapolis 500 for the first time, a victory that crowned his career in North American racing. Recognized for his versatility across categories and his successful stint with Penske, Pagenaud left a legacy as one of the few European drivers to reach the top of IndyCar and to win Indianapolis, establishing international notoriety in modern motorsport.
