Susan Seaforth Hayes is an American television actress whose career spans more than five decades, primarily in daytime soap operas. She became known for playing Julie Olson Williams on Days of Our Lives, a role she has inhabited since 1968 and that made her the only actress to appear on the series in all seven decades of its production. Her career also includes the recurring role of Joanna Manning on The Young and the Restless and appearances in other classic television productions from the 1960s through the 1980s. A graduate in History from Los Angeles City College, Seaforth Hayes balanced acting with an interest in the American Old West and Native American cultures, subjects on which she has given lectures at universities. She received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations and audience and critics’ awards in the 1970s, reflecting her popularity with daytime viewers. Beyond her acting, she drew attention for her professional and personal partnership with actor Bill Hayes; the couple became one of the first soap-opera “supercouples,” with a broad cultural impact on the media of the time. Her career remains notable for its longevity and for her association with central characters in daytime television programming.
