Tipper Gore, born Mary Elizabeth Aitcheson, is an American social activist known for her public role from the late 20th century onward. She rose to national prominence as Second Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001, a period in which she increased her visibility on a number of social causes. In 1985 she co-founded the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), an initiative focused on labeling recordings with explicit language, a movement that sparked broad debate over freedom of expression and child protection. During her public life she also promoted awareness campaigns on mental health, women’s rights, LGBT rights, and policies to combat homelessness. Professionally she worked as a newspaper photographer and has published several books on family, culture, and child advocacy, including works on parenting in a media-saturated society. Her public work blends political engagement and social activism, keeping her relevant to debates on cultural policy and social welfare in the United States.
