Varun Dhawan is an Indian Bollywood actor known for combining commercial appeal with a range of performances. The son of director David Dhawan, he took a degree in Business Management in the United Kingdom and began his film career as an assistant director before debuting as an actor in 2012 in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, a production that launched his successful career. Over the following decade, Dhawan became one of India’s highest-paid stars, delivering a string of commercial hits — including romantic comedies (Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania), action comedies (Dilwale, Dishoom, Judwaa 2) and dance films (ABCD 2). These films secured his market standing and put him on Forbes India’s 100 Celebrity list from 2014 onward. Alongside commercial cinema, Dhawan won critical recognition for dramatic roles, notably Badlapur, which earned him awards, and October, which critics called his most mature performance. In Sui Dhaaga, he was notable for portraying a simple man within a social and entrepreneurial setting. His legacy mixes box-office charisma with attempts at dramatic breadth, making him a prominent figure in contemporary Hindi cinema.
