Vladimir Vladimirovich Pozner is a journalist and television presenter born in France, known for acting as a Soviet spokesman in Western media during the Cold War. Fluent in English, Russian and French, he became known for explaining and defending Soviet positions in interviews and televised debates in the United States, a role he later described as propaganda. His charismatic presence and command of languages made him a recurring figure on programs such as Nightline and The Phil Donahue Show.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, Pozner lived and worked between the United States and Russia. From 1991 to 1994 he co-hosted Pozner/Donahue on CNBC and later returned to Moscow to build an independent career in Russian television. Between 2008 and 2022 he presented the eponymous Pozner on Channel One, interviewing public figures and attracting a large domestic audience.
In addition to his television work, he founded the School of Excellence in Television in 1997 to train young journalists and served as president of the Russian Academy of Television, which oversees the TEFI awards. His public career includes participation in televised bridges between the US and the USSR and editorial work for international Soviet-era publications.
