Alan John Percivale Taylor was a prominent British historian who specialized in the diplomatic history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Europe. Author of influential works on Italian unification, Habsburg history and the development of modern Germany, he established an academic reputation for concise, widely read analyses such as The Italian Problem in European Diplomacy and The Habsburg Monarchy.
