Ann Sheridan (Clara Lou Sheridan) was an American actress and singer whose career rose to prominence in Hollywood cinema during the 1930s and 1940s. She became known both for leading roles in studio pictures and for supporting work in high-profile films, including Angels with Dirty Faces (1938), They Drive by Night (1940), Kings Row (1942), and I Was a Male War Bride (1949). Born in Texas, she began with small parts at Paramount before signing with Warner Bros., where she established herself across a range of genres—from film noir to comedies and musicals—and became a major box-office star. She was remembered for portraying memorable characters in popular films and for being labeled in 1939 as the American actress with the greatest “oomph,” a tag that became part of her public image.
