Aurora Miranda da Cunha Richaid was a Brazilian singer and actress whose career rose to prominence in the 1930s and 1940s. Discovered on Rio de Janeiro radio while still young, she recorded hits in partnership with artists such as Francisco Alves and joined the network of stations and theaters that defined the golden age of radio in Brazil. Her repertoire included marches, sambas and sambas-canção, among them the famous "Cidade Maravilhosa," performed in duet with André Filho.
She appeared in classic national film productions such as Alô, Alô, Brasil (1935) and Alô, Alô, Carnaval (1936), and was part of the cast of American films during the period she lived in the United States in the 1940s. In 1944 she gave a memorable performance in The Three Caballeros, in which her voice was used in the technical innovation that blended live-action and animation.
Over the course of her career she left behind an extensive recorded catalogue — more than 80 discs and about 161 songs — and returned to Brazil in the 1950s, re-recording earlier hits. Regarded by many as possessing the finest voice among the Miranda sisters, her career was notable both for its artistic output and for her engagement with the cultural and media context that shaped Brazilian popular music of the era.
