Desideria Isabel Sibylla, known as Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld, was a member of the House of Bernadotte and a figure of the Swedish royal family. A granddaughter of King Gustaf VI Adolf and the elder sister of the current King Carl XVI Gustaf, she was part of the well‑known Haga Princesses and received a private education fitting her status in a postwar constitutional monarchy. On 5 June 1964 she married Baron Nils August Silfverschiöld at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Stockholm. By marrying a nobleman who was not a member of the royal house, she lost the style of Royal Highness and thereafter used the courtesy title Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld. Under the constitution in force at the time, she and her descendants were excluded from the line of succession. The couple had three children — Carl Otto Edmund, Kristina‑Louisa Ewa Madeleine and Hélène Ingeborg — who comprised her direct descendants. Her death at the age of 87 was announced officially by the Swedish Royal Court on 21 January 2026, closing a life characterized by a discreet public presence and ties to the Swedish monarchy.
