Bill Gaither (William J. Gaither) is an American singer, songwriter and producer known for his long career in southern gospel and contemporary Christian music. Active since the 1950s, he initially formed the Bill Gaither Trio and later led the Gaither Vocal Band, groups that helped popularize evangelical repertoire with more contemporary arrangements. Together with his wife Gloria, he wrote songs widely re-recorded and performed, such as Because He Lives and There’s Something About That Name, with Gloria generally credited for the lyrics and Bill for the music.
Beyond his work as a performer and songwriter, Gaither created an important series of concerts called "Homecomings," which since 1991 have brought together southern gospel figures in large theaters and sold millions of tickets worldwide. He has also worked as a producer and businessman: he founded the Gaither Music Company, encompassing a record label, audiovisual production and tour support. His influence is attributed both to promoting new artists and to keeping veteran performers of the genre in the public eye.
Recognized by the industry, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and is regarded among notable professionals for his contributions to contemporary Christian music and artistic evangelism.
