Bob Saget was an American stand-up comedian, actor, director, and presenter whose career ranged from family entertainment to adult comedy. He became nationally known as Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House (1987–1995) — a role he reprised in the sequel Fuller House — and as the original host of the home-video show America’s Funniest Home Videos (1989–1997). Those roles established his public image as a television father figure.
At the same time, Saget cultivated a profane comedian persona on stage, combining the two sides in albums and specials; his 2014 album That’s What I’m Talkin’ About was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. He was also the narrative voice of Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014), further extending his presence in contemporary pop culture.
As a director, he made the TV movie For Hope (1996), inspired by his sister’s story, and the feature Dirty Work (1998), which received negative critical reviews at the time but later achieved cult status. His career included various appearances in film, television, and theater, as well as stand-up tours that demonstrated his appeal to both family and adult audiences.
