Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta is a former Peruvian volleyball player and politician known for her influence in sport and public life in Peru. A leading attacker for the Peruvian national team, she was part of the generation that dominated South American volleyball in the 1970s and 1980s, winning continental titles, medals at the Pan American Games, and the Olympic silver medal in Seoul in 1988. Her technique and fame as “La Zurda de Oro” earned her offers from clubs in Italy, Brazil, and Germany, and she was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005.
Born into a humble family in Villa María del Triunfo, Tait turned her sporting prestige into social and political action. She founded an NGO to discover and train young athletes and, elected to Congress for Peru Posible, focused primarily on youth and sport, participating in the drafting of Sports Promotion Law No. 28036.
After retiring as an athlete, she remained involved in sport as an administrator and promoter of training initiatives. She was the first South American inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame and continues to be recognized in the country both for her sporting achievements — including club titles and individual awards — and for her work promoting sports and social development.
