Celeste Holm was an American stage, film and television actress whose career spanned from the 1930s to the 2000s. Trained in drama at the University of Chicago, she made her Broadway debut in 1936 and established herself as a versatile performer, moving naturally between drama, musicals and comedy. In film she won critical recognition with the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for Gentleman's Agreement (1947). She also received Academy Award nominations for Come to the Stable (1949) and All About Eve (1950), films that helped cement her reputation in prominent roles during Hollywood’s golden age. Despite success on screen, she preferred theatre and television, where she even hosted her own program in the 1950s and continued to appear in series and TV movies in later decades. She also appeared in notable films such as The Tender Trap (1955), High Society (1956), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1973) and Three Men and a Baby (1987). Her career is remembered for her ability to bridge stage and screen with elegance and for her artistic longevity, recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
