Christine Angot is a French writer and playwright whose work, closely tied to autofiction, has made her a central figure in contemporary francophone literature. The author of provocative novels and intensely autobiographical texts, Angot rose to prominence in 1999 with L'Inceste, a book that sparked intense public debate and polarized criticism, and she consolidated her literary standing with awards such as the France Culture Prize (2005), the prix de Flore (2006), the prix Décembre (2015) and the prix Médicis (2021).
Beyond her fiction, Angot is known for public readings of her texts and for a media presence that frequently fuels controversies about the boundaries between life and fiction. Her publishing path passed through several houses and, despite early rejections, culminated in critical and commercial recognition. In 2023 she was elected a member of the Académie Goncourt, reflecting her influence within the French literary scene.
